We’re looking for our next Liberator – a Director, Engineering – to join our quest to provide market-transforming solutions for businesses, care teams and consumers to interactively manage health and care.

You will play a key role providing effective collaboration, facilitation, leadership, and coaching to support the ongoing innovations of our product applications and the development of our engineering staff to achieve our goal of claiming the place as the leading Integrated Health Solutions company. You will bring deep expertise in architecture, design and development standards along with Agile practices to provide hands-on technical and managerial leadership for a team of Application Developers and contributing Scrum Teams and other areas of the business. Additionally, you will lead design sprints and serve as a change agent to support the organizational transformation to SAFe Agile practices through the use of Customer Centricity and Design Thinking. You will be responsible for managing the downstream execution of their work, while removing impediments, promoting self-management and constantly improving our development standards. This will be a highly visible and collaborative role across the enterprise requiring very strong working relationships as your ultimate goal is to enhance the efficiency and quality of our portfolio solutions delivery.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Lead the development standards for the workgroup while providing management and direction to accomplish on-time, efficient delivery of product development goals; proactively develop and maintaining team standards, tools, and best practices.
  • Provide direct input to project plans, schedules, and methodology in the development of cross-functional software products and achievement of company strategic priorities.
  • Utilize your deep expertise in software engineering and Agile practices to contribute to the design and lead the day-to-day development efforts while performing code reviews to ensure enterprise and architectural standards and processes are followed; write advanced complex code as needed and provide coaching and guidance to further develop the team’s expertise.
  • Ensure cost-efficiency within workgroup; create and present budget plans as needed.
  • Provide effective and consistent report outs to the Engineering leadership team on sprint, project and personnel matters; clearly demonstrate technical guidance to senior management and cross-functional workgroups.
  • Support Scrum Masters and Project/Program Managers in sprint planning meetings and the creation of project plans for development projects; assist team leads with workgroup commitments through resource allocation, task definitions, project estimations, business requirements review and project/release status updates.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Managers, UI/UX, Client Success, Sales & Account Management on customer-driven enhancements, customer issues, prospect demonstrations, and new product innovations.
  • Actively participate in sales and prototyping activities as needed; this includes ensuring demo environments include the most recent development features through architecture and code configuration.
  • Lead a group of Application Developers and/or technical or functional leads to a high-performing team standard with high collaboration and a sharp focus for providing cutting edge software that will deliver a delightful customer experience.
  • Provide strong technical team talent management practices: training and skills development, coaching, attracting and retaining in-demand talent, aligning people development with emerging industry trends.
  • Provide mentorship and encourage new ideas from staff to foster improvements through innovations.
  • Employ agency resources or partnerships where required, including defining scope for Statements of Work, managing agency resources, tasks and deliverables and ensuring that the results fit with Medecision’s overall strategy and direction.
  • Utilize passion and innovation to ensure that Medecision is always on the cutting edge of application development standards.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience as a Software Engineering/Application Development practitioner, with demonstrated expertise in the following:
    • Hands-on architecture and development in Enterprise Java, Ruby on Rails, Python, PHP, JavaScript or a similar language.
    • Experience applying concepts of building Object Oriented Design/Programing, (OOP/OOD) Service Oriented Architecture, microservice-style and cloud-based applications, and highly scalable solutions.
    • ModernDirec Agile practices in a Software as a Service (SaaS) environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience leading Application Development teams and initiatives that promote a results-oriented culture of teamwork, respect, excellence, integrity, and accountability.
  • Successful experience leading sprint planning sessions of multidisciplinary teams from research and strategy (marketing direction) through successful product implementation and production.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service and professional guidance.
  • Ability to work independently to execute against deadlines, finding ways to maximize efficiency in an agile process and scrum framework; SAFe Agile Certification preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of modern SaaS best practices, work streams, and architectures. 
  • Ability to manage project scope, schedule, budget, and reporting of team activities.
  • Strong conceptual skills, with an ability to effectively balance rational and intuitive thinking.
  • Full understanding of best design practices for production delivery across platforms, i.e., embedded, desktop, and mobile.
  • Skilled in developing presentations for delivery up to executive level, communicating ideas through visual design, prototypes, and user stories.
  • Track record of delivering appropriate level of specification needed to ensure high-quality development, on time.
  • Conceptualizing ways of providing new and improved value to our customers.
  • Driving and documenting design standards and patterns across channels and products.
  • Excellent Written, verbal, and diagrammatic communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, and management to develop solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to accurately analyze information and make sound decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and accountability for achieving results.
  • Experience in healthcare technology or population health management industries in developing software products for healthcare delivery and payer customers is highly preferred.
  • Passion to research and share industry trends, high-tech best practices, and comparable experiences.
